Summer Learning Journey

In Te Ngahere we made DLO’s of famous people; Lorde, Roald Dahl and Taika Waititi. I made a DLO about Lorde. We had to search facts about the people and put them all together in a presentation. We did this to practise for the Summer Learning Journey which is a programme for kids. The Summer Learning Journey is to help you not go down the summer slide. The summer slide is when you don’t learn during the holidays and when you come back to school you forget some of the things you learnt. Here is the link to the website: Summer Learning Journey PRESENTATION:

Magnificent Microstories

In Te Ngahere we have been reading microstories. For microstories we had to choose 3 stories and write the similarities and the differences. We chose two microstories and one long story. The microstories are 100 words or less, the ones we chose were called The Murder, The Maze Hunt and Fever. We had to find things in the writing: hook, twist, mood, vocab, structure, sames, and differences. My group accidentally used the story structure instead of the vocabulary which I am definitely going to change. It was difficult to write the sames because they were all very different. It would be great if you could give me some feedback. Thank you for reading my post!

Tessellating Shapes.

In Te Ngahere we have been doing tessellation, tessellation is when you make a pattern using one shape in two different colours, the shapes don’t overlap or have gaps. We did this to learn mathematical terms. While doing this art I learnt that choosing colours that contrast ( one hot colour and one cold colour) make your art look so much better. I also learnt that creating a shape that looks like something ( an animal) makes it look great. Have you ever made a tessellation art piece before?

Project Energize

Two days ago at 11:50 Whaea Gina from project energize came over to go over the food pyramid and show us healthy food. She showed us all of the food groups I learnt that there are heaps of different types of milk, cow milk, rice milk, almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk and oat milk. She told us why each food group is important and what they do to us to make us healthy. I will definitely eat more protein and eat better in the future. Thanks Whaea Gina for going over the food groups it helps us to eat healthier and teaches us what foods to eat more or less of! Bye.

Explain Writing: Treaty Grounds.

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about explain texts for a writing test we have coming up. In an explain text you can not persuade or have a personal opinion. We had to write a text about why something is important to our community everybody wrote about the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. We had to research things about the treaty ground for our writing and write them down. While researching I learnt what the flags on the flag pole represent. An explain piece of writing has to include an introduction three main ideas/paragraphs and a conclusion. Have you ever written an explain piece of writing?

100 Word Writng

In Te Ngahere we have been writing 100 word stories. Our teacher gave us the topic and we had to write about it. We are doing this for a competition. I learnt how to write an interesting piece of writing in 100 words. It was easy coming up with ideas but it was difficult to only write in the limit of 100. I struggled a little bit because describing everything in 100 words was really difficult. The writing started with an introduction that we had to break down and make smaller. The story has to have a twist. Have you ever tried to write a small piece of writing? The scary noise underneath the bed made Michael scared he wanted to check it out. He lay on his floors and took a peek. It was his hamster rolling around. He took the hamster to his cage and went back to bed. He heard the rattling again. He started to shake, he thought of calling his mum but he built up the courage and looked under the bed and ‘shhhr’ the sound of someone getting dragged across the floor. Soon the morning came. No one knows where Michael is and to the monster under the bed’s hope they never will.

Swim Safe

In Te Ngahere a lady named Tracy came in and told our class about swim safety. While she was here I learnt that flares get really hot and they are not waterproof that is because when they get hot you can put them in the water to cool them down. She also shared a story with us about two people on a boat that capsized. I also learnt the number on a radio for the coast guard which is 16. I will definitely use these 5 rules the next time I go on a boat. Do you know the 5 rules?
